CARLEIGH AIKINS UNVEILS "JUNK JEWELRY" FOCUS TRACK "GOOD BOOK"

“…the song is also born from a past relationship with someone who was living a “double life,” largely due to their repressive upbringing …”

Carleigh Aikins is no stranger to being on stage and performing. However, much of that time has been spent hidden in the shadows, standing in a corner and being a back-up vocalist to and for other artists. However, all of us can only spend so much time tucked away, our talents obscured and overlooked. Now it’s Carleigh’s time to shine. Her debut solo album JUNK JEWELERY, which showcases her impressive vocal range and song-writing abilities, and has rock, pop and soul undertones, drops on Friday, and today PopWrapped are delighted to premiere its focus track “Good Book.”

PKEW PKEW PKEW SIGN TO ROUGH TRADE PUBLISHING

Pkew Pkew Pkew is looking on the bright side.

As a band that lives and dies by touring, it’s been a while since they could say fuck it, we’re taking a year off to make something. That decision wasn’t entirely theirs, but 2020 handed them an opportunity. Open Bar doesn’t navigate any of the tired pandemic tropes. Instead, Pkew is celebrating the things that make their lives awesome, even if those things suck sometimes.

The band was forced to take a step back and use a slower approach. Mike Warne (guitars/vocals), Ryan McKinley (guitars/vocals), Emmett O’Reilly (bass/vocals) and David Laino (drums) bounced song ideas off Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, and went into the studio with Jon Drew, who produced their first album.

“Since we didn’t have a hard deadline to finish, we felt a lot more freedom to take our time and mess around in the studio. Jon is the kind of producer that is down to try anything, so we had lots of fun playing with trumpets, old moog synths, glockenspiels,” says Warne.

After years of touring and performing on world stages as a supporting band member, or the shiny pretty thing standing in the shadows of prominent artists as a backing vocalist, Carleigh Aikins finally emerges to reveal herself as a true Canadian vocal treasure worthy of the spotlight on her debut solo album Junk Jewelry (out December 3 via SilverDoor Music).

Junk Jewelry offers a landscape of Carleigh’s diverse vocal range and ability – from her tender vibrato to her distinctive and explosive vocal fry. It serves not only as a landmark of her prowess as a backing vocalist (she performs all the countless layers of BGV’s on the album), but as a powerful front-woman in her own right.

ANNOUNCEMENT: DECIBEL MAGAZINE - June 29, 2021

Track Premiere: Band of Bastards – ‘Division’

Austin is a hotbed for new music and hardcore punks Band of Bastards are in on the action. The band—which features members of …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Sparta, Markov and a decade’s worth of other bands—delivers a release of built-up frustration caused by the pandemic and the political turmoil of the last year.

“Division,” the band’s new song and video, is cut from a traditional hardcore punk cloth. It’s short and sweet, executed with the precision that one would expect from scene veterans like the ones in Band of Bastards.

“The divide these days is real and everybody feels it,” says singer Andrew Leeper. “Don’t know how it gets better but turning off the TV sure as shit couldn’t hurt.” [continue reading article here]

ANNOUNCEMENT: PRESS RELEASE - May 24, 2021

SilverDoor Music has partnered with German-based record label Grönland Records, to distribute and represent new music from the critically acclaimed pop-duo BOY in North America.

Swiss-German duo BOY return with their first new music since 2015’s We Were Here. ‘FIT BACK IN’ showcases Valeska Steiner’s enviably charming vocals riding Sonja Glass’ delicately arranged composition, the song’s like running into an old friend you’ve not seen for ages and suddenly remembering just how much you’ve missed them.

The ladies of BOY captured the hearts of North American fans in 2013, when they made their stateside live debut with sold-out tour dates, including a successful run at SXSW, where they came out a favorite among festival attendees and landed on numerous “Best Of” lists. Over their time here, they received praise from The New York Times, NPR Music, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Glamour, Nylon and more. They also made huge fans at influential radio stations like Sirius Spectrum, KBCO/Denver, KCMP/Minneapolis, WRLT/Nashville, WXPN/Philadelphia, WXRT/Chicago and KCRW/Los Angeles with their infectiously catchy single “Little Numbers” from debut album Mutual Friends, the video for which boasts more than 21 million YouTube views.

The new single, "Fit Back In", is out May 28 and available on all music platforms.
